Framer component variants that behave like a design system

Published · Apr 10, 2026

Use variants, properties, and consistent tokens in Framer so marketing ships faster without breaking brand or layout.

Variants are contracts

Each variant should answer a design question: primary vs secondary, light vs dark tile, with icon vs without. If a variant exists “just because,” delete it.

Properties over duplication

Expose the smallest set of controls editors need. Too many toggles creates combinatorial chaos.

Tokens first

Align spacing, radii, and type ramps to a shared scale so new sections snap into place.

Documentation

Short Looms plus a single-page cheat sheet beat a fifty-page PDF nobody reads.

Takeaway: systems win when defaults are strong—variants should make the right layout the fastest layout.
